Metolius Climbing Roll Up Stick Clip Kit wins coveted Climbing Editor’s Choice award

BEND, Ore. (May 28, 2024) Metolius Climbing, a leading manufacturer and designer of innovative climbing gear, won Climbing Magazine’s prestigious Editor’s Choice award for its new Roll Up Stick Clip Kit. Climbing’s editors put the newest and most innovative climbing hardware through rigorous testing over the course of several months before deciding on their favorites. The Roll Up Stick Clip Kit came out on top, and was lauded for its durability and versatility, amongst other accolades.

The Roll Up Stick Clip Kit is a unique addition to Metolius’ lineup of climbing products, with a revolutionary technology that allows a lightweight, rigid, 3m (9.8’) pole to roll up into a 95mm x 115mm (3.75” x 4.5”) package. It’s the most compact and portable stick clip on the market, making it incredibly easy to travel with despite its long length when unrolled and in use. The full kit weighs 28 oz., and includes:

  • 3m (9.8’) composite stick clip pole with universal end-fitting
  • US painter’s pole thread adaptor – accepts Superclip™ attachment (Standard and Rescue) or a wide variety of brushes, broom heads, etc.
  • ¼-20 camera mount adapter – which allows users to turn their stick clip into a camera extension pole that works with GoPro and other similar camera mounts
  • The Superclip™ – the original and best option for clipping bolts and retrieving carabiners/quickdraws. Works with any non-locking carabiner from the FS Mini, to ovals
  • Carry bag

“Its compact design comes courtesy of a space-age composite material that comes tightly rolled into a cylinder,” said Climbing. “Like a Fruit Roll-Up, it unfurls and refolds into a tube that you can click the end fitting into. I was initially skeptical about durability, but after unrolling and re-rolling it dozens of times and banging the stick around at the crags, it’s remained as solid as day one, with no cracking or deformation…if you’re flying to your climbing destination, there’s no better option than this innovative option from Metolius.”

Outdoor Foundation Unveils 2023 Annual Report Findings

BOULDER, CO (May 23rd, 2024) – The Outdoor Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Outdoor Industry Association, eagerly released its annual report today showcasing 2023 impact data and highlights from its national Thrive Outside Initiative and previewing participation research from the Outdoor Participation Trends Report.

Since the launch of the Thrive Outside Initiative in 2019, the Outdoor Foundation has helped to connect tens of thousands of youths and their families to the joy, wonder, and myriad benefits of the outdoors. In 2023, Thrive Outside Communities engaged over 95,000 participants through transformative experiences in the outdoors, diversifying outdoor participation through innovative, cross-sector partnerships and youth outdoor programming.

In 2023, the Outdoor Foundation continued its grantmaking to support multi-year investments in regional collective impact approaches across the country to connect children, youth, and families to the outdoors. Thrive Outside has helped build capacity of large and diverse coalitions (including nonprofit, school, health, social service, government, and philanthropic partners) with a shared vision to provide positive, healing, and equitable experiences for communities in the outdoors.

“We are thrilled to announce the publication of the Outdoor Foundation’s 2023 Annual Report. The report underscores the tremendous impact of our Thrive Outside Initiative, showcasing how our grantees’ collective efforts are transforming communities nationwide,” said Lesford Duncan, Executive Director of Outdoor Foundation.

Annual highlights from the national initiative include a series of new collaborative program models in Oklahoma City, San Diego, and Washington, D.C. where partnerships have been created between mental health providers (children’s hospitals, county mental health, and social service agencies) and outdoor nonprofit organizations to provide effective outdoor healing programs for youth struggling with mental and behavioral health issues.

Additionally, in areas like Detroit, Grand Rapids, St. Louis and the state of Maine, the Outdoor Foundation has supported the development of new outdoor gear programs and libraries so community members and organizations can access the necessary equipment and training needed to lead outdoor activities safely and effectively regardless of their resources.

On a broader scale, in 2023 the Foundation’s Thrive Outside networks have been at the forefront of the development and implementation of millions of dollars of new resources for outdoor programming.

From local community funds to statewide outdoor equity funds, each of these programs is centered around increasing equitable access to outdoor recreation and engaging underrepresented and historically excluded communities.

“Through strategic community investments and groundbreaking research, the Outdoor Foundation is breaking down barriers to outdoor access and increasing diverse participation in communities like never before,” said Duncan. “We are continually inspired by the countless stories of empowerment and connection that have emerged from our Thrive Outside Communities.”

To that end, participants served through the Foundation’s Thrive Outside Initiative in 2023 were approximately 70% Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), and its collective impact approach continues to drive community-led systems change that reduces barriers for those most marginalized.

Looking at the work ahead, the Outdoor Foundation continues to listen deeply to both the successes and needs of its Thrive Outside Communities, positioning the Foundation to respond nimbly and responsively. As the organization thinks strategically about expanding to new Thrive Outside regions, it continues to seek and adapt financial and technical resources to meet the gaps.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, donors, and dedicated team for their unwavering support. Together, we are blazing new trails and shaping a brighter future for outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship,” concluded Duncan.

The Outdoor Foundation’s work would not be possible without its partnership with Outdoor Industry Association and the generous support of its Leadership Partners; Amazon, Capitol One, Carhartt, L.L. Bean, Patagonia, REI, Thule, VF Corporation, Winnebago Industries, Wolverine Worldwide and countless others.

Black Diamond Equipment Issues Voluntary Recall for its Neve Strap Crampons (green 2024 version)

May 23, 2024 – Black Diamond Equipment, a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative, high performance outdoor equipment, apparel and footwear, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, is voluntarily recalling its Neve Strap Crampons and related accessories/spare parts.

This recall affects all green 2024 Neve Strap Crampons (style #400073) that were sold between January and May 2024 (see specific details below). There have been three reported instances of this happening in the field with no reported injuries.

Customers who own the green Neve Strap Crampons and/or the strap accessories sold between January and May 2024 should immediately stop using them and contact Black Diamond for a full refund.

Arc’teryx Joins Ellen McArthur Foundation’s Fashion ReModel Initiative

NORTH VANCOUVER, British Columbia – May 23, 2024 – Arc’teryx Equipment, the global design company specializing in technical high-performance outerwear and equipment, is proud to announce its participation in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Fashion ReModel, a global apparel industry initiative aiming to identify solutions and overcome barriers to scaling circular business models. The collaboration signifies the outset of a shared partnership between Arc’teryx and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, united in their goal to drive sustainability and innovation in the fashion sector.

The Ellen McArthur Foundation – an international charity dedicated to accelerating the transition to a circular economy – hopes that the project will provide the starting point to transform how business is done with the support of policymakers in fashion.

Launched at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, The Fashion ReModel unites a group of industry frontrunners from across high street and luxury names, as well as others in the sector, to make circular business models the norm. Arc’teryx is among the first participants in the Foundation-led project.

“Arc’teryx is committed to a circular future, building products to last and equipping our guests with the tools and education to keep their gear in play,” said Dominique Showers, Vice President, ReBIRD™ at Arc’teryx. “We’re excited to be one of the first participants to join the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s demonstration project, The Fashion ReModel, to reimagine circularity for the outdoor industry, rethinking the way we approach design and waste to build a future in which everything we create can be given a second life.”

Participating in The Fashion ReModel represents a significant leap forward for Arc’teryx toward its recently-announced climate targets and commitment to becoming a net-zero company by 2050 or sooner. Aligning with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation underscores the brand’s proactive approach to addressing environmental challenges in the fashion industry. Through collaborative efforts like The Fashion ReModel, Arc’teryx solidifies its position as a forward-thinking industry leader, driving positive change towards a more sustainable future.

“Through their participation in The Fashion ReModel, this group of organizations are taking the next step on the road towards a circular economy for fashion,” said Jules Lennon, Fashion Lead at the Ellen McArthur Foundation. “In order to challenge conventional linear models and create a new normal, brands must decouple revenue from production by accelerating efforts to redesign the products of the future, as well as rethinking the services and business models which deliver them to customers and keep them in use.”

To date, The Fashion ReModel has been endorsed by organizations including the British Fashion Council, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Global Fashion Agenda, Fashion for Good and the Waste & Resources Action Programme. The Foundation believes that the shared learnings and experiences will forge the path towards a more resilient fashion industry.

Further information about The Fashion ReModel project can be found here.
