OIA CAPITOL SUMMIT
2020 OIA Capitol Summit is now Postponed
As the coronavirus outbreak continues to grow as a public health concern, all of us at Outdoor Industry Association want to do our part to limit the spread of the virus and be mindful of the health of our members, companies, partners and everyone’s families.
As such, we are postponing the April 2020 Capitol Summit in Washington, D.C. We hope to reschedule this at a future date as we still have important legislation and information to share with congressional leaders around how the outdoors and the outdoor recreation economy contribute to the well-being of our citizens, communities and our country, especially in times such as these.
The June 23 – 25 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market is still planned to go on in Denver, but we are in close communication with Emerald Exposition and will continue to consult guidance from local, state and federal government around travel and convening large groups and keep everyone apprised of any changes.
Also, important to note, we have strongly encouraged the staff of OIA to work remotely for the coming weeks. We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution and to do our part in protecting the community and slowing the spread of the virus. We are available by phone, email and video chat to support our members, so please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Here is a link to our staff directory that includes links to our email addresses.
As with many organizations, we are staying on top of the situation hour-by-hour and following guidance from the CDC. We will share updates in emails and on our website. We also plan to provide updates and tools around best practices.
We appreciate your understanding. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
WHAT IS CAPITOL SUMMIT
Capitol Summit is the outdoor industry’s premiere advocacy event in Washington, D.C. Industry executives from across the country come to educate their elected officials in Congress on key issues impacting their businesses. You’ll have the opportunity to hear from agency, administration and elected officials during our education sessions, and build valuable relationships with your industry peers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This event provides great insight into our government’s decision-making process in Washington, D.C. Attendees receive an introductory training on lobbying as well as education on OIA’s policy agenda and legislative priorities. We will serve as your guide to navigating the Hill and provide timely background information and training on the industry’s policy agenda, legislative priorities and members of Congress. Attendees will leave with a full understanding of how to schedule and conduct congressional meetings on the Hill as well as tools and skills to take home and make an impact in your state.
THE IMPORTANCE TO ALL OUTDOOR BUSINESSES
Capitol Summit builds the outdoor industry’s relationship with Congress by discussing our business issues and their related decisions, face to face. After each Capitol Summit, leaders in Congress champion our issues, sign on to sponsor and co-sponsor relevant legislation, circulate our legislation to their peers and across the aisle, attend Outdoor Retailer and arrange tours of companies’ facilities in their home state. Capitol Summit has direct results at engaging Congress in the outdoor industry.
