SCARPA continues work towards diversity, equity and inclusion in the outdoor industry through launch of athlete mentorship initiative

BOULDER, Colo. (December 17, 2020) – SCARPA, a trusted leader in the outdoor space, is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever “SCARPA Stands for Guiding Growth” Athlete Mentorship Initiative. This initiative will live at the core of SCARPA’s mission to create more diversity, equity and inclusion in the climbing and outdoor sports community.

SCARPA’s guiding principles, SCARPA Stands, include the planet, people, principles and product. SCARPA’s commitment to guiding growth within historically marginalized and underserved communities falls under the “people” principle. Based on the belief that SCARPA will not rest until it sees people from these communities at all levels of sport and industry, including as sponsored athletes, professional guides, company leaders and in our boardrooms, the Athlete Mentorship Initiative aims to support them as a first step on a longer journey towards more inclusion and representation.

The goal of the Athlete Mentorship Program is to connect and engage the SCARPA athlete team with accomplished athletes from historically marginalized communities who aspire to take their sport or career to the next level. SCARPA is reaching out to these populations including, but not limited to, the BIPOC, LGBTQ and adaptive/disabled communities of climbers, skiers, mountaineers and trail runners who may benefit from being paired with a SCARPA athlete mentor who can guide them in the right direction and towards achieving their specific goals. Some of these goals might include:

  • Establishing connections in the industry
  • Building brand partnerships
  • Growing their social media presence
  • Transitioning their athletic interests into a career
  • Learning how to work effectively with non-profit organizations

SCARPA plans to use its community of experts to educate and empower the mentees, while encouraging all participants to give back to others in their communities after completion of the mentorship program. This will be accomplished through one-on-one monthly virtual meet-ups, weekly mentor-mentee communication, SCARPA athlete-led focus groups, Outdoor Industry community panels, CEO round tables and a selection of other events and presentations. SCARPA will also provide resources and education focused on goal setting, communication development, equity and inclusion subjects and more.

“SCARPA acknowledges that its current athlete team and therefore mentors are not representative of the communities the Athlete Mentorship Initiative aims to cater to,” said Kim Miller, CEO of SCARPA North America. “This program is a first step within a much longer journey that SCARPA is committed to venturing further into in hopes that real change will come from it, and that you all will consider joining us. Diversity and inclusion needs to happen on all levels, from new outdoor enthusiasts to experienced  outdoor athletes, and there needs to be an accessible progression of stepping stones that will help people follow their dreams and reach their full athletic or professional potential in climbing and outdoor sports.”

If you or someone you know would be a good fit for this program and wants to learn from professional athletes how to excel at the highest level of an outdoor sports discipline, please visit SCARPA’s website for more information and for details about how to apply.

Mentee applications will be accepted until January 15th, 2021. Applicants will be notified if they were or were not chosen for the program in early February. The inaugural year of the program will begin in February 2021 and conclude in January 2022.

Houdini Previews its Most Circular Collection of FW21 Sportswear

Swedish Circular Sportswear brand Houdini today announces the launch of its FW21 collection. By reimagining not just how products feel on your body but how brands launch new products in what is typically a closed door event. With the goal to be 100% circular by 2022, Houdini launches 4 key silhouettes that encapsulate many circular technologies such as recycled and recyclable materials, fluorocarbon free water repellency and insulation that does not steal feathers from birds.

Houdini reimagines performance with the Pace collection which consists of a jacket and pants, featuring the C9 Octa softshell fabric, made for high energy output activities such as ski touring, mountaineering, hiking and snowshoeing. Rather than getting caught up in what’s measurable Houdini focuses on the visceral feeling of wearing a garment that is soft to the touch, silent and provides unrestricted freedom of movement.

(Pace Jacket $350/€350/SEK3500 Pace Pants $300/€300/SEK3000)

“Nowadays clothes are judged by numbers from a lab test rather than how it feels to wear them” said Jesper Danielsson, Houdini Head of Design. “We believe that when you feel better, you will do better”. said Danielsson.

As an extension to the Pace philosophy, Houdini continues to reimagine the insulated mid-layer through the introduction of the Moonwalk Jacket. Designed to provide warmth and breathability for high pace activities in the mountains, the Moonwalk Jacket is made with 70% recycled materials and is fully recyclable. Instead of stealing feathers off birds it keeps you warm thanks to the properties of Primaloft Gold Active Plus and is completely fluorocarbon DWR free which keeps toxins out of our watersheds.

(Moonwalk Jacket $320/€320/SEK 3200)

“We use post consumer plastic waste to create an exceptional performance garment and those resources will never have to become waste again” said Danielsson.

Reimagining the expedition style insulated jacket with the launch of Bouncer Jacket, a maximum warmth at minimum weight jacket, featuring Primaloft Rise which stacks the insulation fibers vertically instead of horizontally, creating a bounce when compressed. True to Houdini’s vision of being 100% circular in 2022, the Bouncer is also made from recycled material and is fully recyclable as well as fluorocarbon free.

(Bouncer Jacket $700/€700/SEK7000)

“Reaching the milestone of 100% circular products in 2022 is an incredibly important step on our journey towards the circular and waste free eco system we are planning to have in place by 2030. Transitioning from degenerative to regenerative business practices is essential in order to save the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world – all that makes life worth living.” said Eva Karlsson, Houdini CEO.

Rounding out the new collection, Houdini reimagines its longtime favorite, the Moonwalk Shorties, and launches the all new and 100% circular Moonwalk Shorts. Whether your rear needs a little extra warmth on the chairlift or as a reinforcement piece over your running tights in winter time, the Moonwalk Short is sure to be one of those pieces you’ll wonder how you could have ever lived without.  (Moonwalk Shorts $100/€100/SEK1000)

LifeHandle, The Simple and Versatile “Carry Anything” Sling, Has Launched on Kickstarter

The first two products in the collection, the Hands-Free Comfort Leash and the Fuss-Free Kid Handle, are now available for pre-order on Kickstarter

BOSTON, MA. (December 11, 2020) LifeHandle, a brand new direct-to-consumer brand that manufactures assistive carrying devices and accessories that grow and adapt with you, has recently launched on Kickstarter. The campaign has seen success in its early days and is currently almost 50% funded. LifeHandle has been developing and perfecting their patent-pending sling technology and purpose-driven designs for over a year. The company’s first two products – the Hands-Free Comfort Leash that is designed to distribute your dog’s pull force across your core while keeping both hands free, and the Fuss-Free Kid Handle that replaces the need for multiple baby wraps, strollers, and other bulky or heavy carriers in one product – are now available for pre-order on the LifeHandle Kickstarter page.

LifeHandle was born out of the desire to simplify and find solutions for active families who need to carry gear, children and pets – often simultaneously. LifeHandle’s product collection consists of various accessories, such as the Hands-Free Comfort Leash and soon-to-launch Fuss-Free Kid Handle and Beverage Handle, that attach to the LifeHandle Base Sling with patent-pending technology. The Base Sling has a welded ring connector that features the “hub” accessory, which can be held on its own to help as a weight transfer assist while holding precious cargo. The Base Sling features a comfortable 6mm neoprene pad across the entire length for support and 20 daisy-chain attachment points with three reflector locations for better visibility in low-light conditions. The Base Sling has two adjustable straps on either side of the ring connector to allow comfortable adjustability for most body sizes.

The Hands-Free Comfort Leash for pets is the most comfortable way to walk, hike or hang out with your dog without compromising the comfort of both the owner and the pet. Unlike other dog leashes, the Hands-Free Comfort Leash distributes the dog’s pull force across your core, instead of your shoulder or hip, all while keeping both hands free. The Hands-Free Comfort Leash is designed for ultimate comfort and safety so you can enjoy more time with your furriest family members. The dog leash is also suitable for dogs of any breed, size or age and compatible with any dog collar or dog harness.

The Hands-Free Comfort Leash uses LifeHandle’s patent-pending sling technology to distribute the force of your pulling dog across the core of your body, instead of the shoulder or hip like other dog leashes. The comfortable and slim design keeps you cool whether you are taking your family and pets for a walk around the neighborhood or hiking the local trails. The dog leash is engineered with breathable air mesh, soft non-irritating fabrics, and generous padding. The leash features four points of reflective high-visibility fabric that gives you peace of mind that others will see you in low-light conditions. The integrated, shock-absorbing loop handle provides extra assurance and something to grab when you need it, helping to further reduce the impact of your dog’s pull force when an unexpected squirrel approaches. The hands-free dog leash is detachable with a built-in carabiner that makes it easy to remove the leash from the sling, and quickly secure your dog wherever is most convenient. To optimize weight distribution and comfort, the leash features multiple points of adjustability.

The Fuss-Free Kid Handle allows you to safely and comfortably enjoy any outdoor adventure with kids. Just pick them up and grab the handle. It’s that easy. Our Base Sling distributes your child’s weight across your core and allows one hand to remain completely free for multi-tasking. Designed to be worn comfortably for miles and miles, hour after hour, meaning more Fuss-Free adventures for the whole family.

The Fuss-Free Kid Handle is engineered with the highest-grade materials to balance strength, durability and weight. The Base Sling can be worn over either shoulder, and you can use either hand to grab the handle. The padded loop on the handle gives kids something to hold onto when walking or standing next to you, keeping both of your hands free for multi-tasking. The comfortable, slim design that is engineered with breathable air mesh, soft non-irritating fabric, and a generous amount of padding to keep you cool and comfortable no matter the distance. Multiple points of adjustability optimize weight-distribution and comfort.

FitRankings Pushes Connected Fitness Innovation with Enhanced Capabilities

FitRankings, the fitness industry’s first to market universal health platform, is expanding its capabilities with new features, including milestone triggered messaging and interactive mapping.  With these advancements, FitRankings partners can better leverage the world of connected health devices and wearables to build the most meaningful digital fitness experiences ever hosted on the internet.

Developing a successful virtual event takes two things: creativity and technology. FitRankings provides technology for partners to do more, engaging their communities in new, authentic ways. At the core of the FitRankings platform is the universal connection to wearables and apps, allowing participants to seamlessly connect any device.

FitRankings offers a wealth of functionality to their brand partners – all designed to foster new virtual growth and engagement opportunities. Custom registration fields, social and community functionality (likes, comments, photo uploads, profiles, followers) real-time leaderboards, and messaging capabilities are paired with real-time reporting and powerful insights, to provide the best possible user experience.

But it doesn’t stop there. FitRankings is providing more advanced functionality with two new features. Partners can now trigger messaging via email, surprising and delighting participants as they achieve certain challenge or race milestones. Additionally, data from participants’ wearables and fitness apps can be translated into real-time movement over an interactive race map. This feature, along with the entire experience, can live natively within a partner’s digital ecosystem or website, complementing the full spectrum of capabilities and interactive nature of the FitRankings platform.

Recently, USA Triathlon successfully leveraged both triggered messaging and FitRankings mapping technology to bring the first-ever Power Within Virtual Tri Across America presented by Toyota to life. Over a period of six weeks, teams competed to share their love of the outdoors while collectively swimming 7 miles, biking 2,400 miles, and running 905 miles. USA Triathlon partnered with FitRankings to design a turnkey experience that allowed athletes nationwide to embark on a shared adventure with friends, family, and teammates. The teams’ progress was tracked using an interactive race map, showing their positions as they raced from San Francisco to New York City. As participants completed important race milestones, messages of encouragement and performance stats were automatically triggered and sent to their inboxes. The entire race experience was seamlessly integrated directly onto virtual-tri.com. Ultimately, with the help of FitRankings, this first-of-its-kind challenge generated huge participation numbers and saw 65 teams log more than 3,300 miles in just six weeks.

Offering dedicated support for partners as well as enhanced cybersecurity and GDPR compliant data protection, there has never been a better time for organizations and enterprises to create their own unique fitness challenges.
