Outdoor Prolink and its members donate $77,000 in 2023, building upon their legacy of community giving and non-profit collaboration

BOULDER, Colo. (February 6, 2024)Outdoor Prolink, the premier platform for outdoor industry professionals, is setting a proactive course for 2024, building on the remarkable success of its philanthropic efforts in the previous year. In 2023, the Outdoor Prolink community – comprised of guides, instructors, and industry professionals – collectively raised over $77,000 dollars. Generated by Outdoor Prolink members, these funds were thoughtfully distributed amongst 11 non-profit organizations.

In 2023, Outdoor Prolink concentrated its philanthropic efforts on four core nonprofit partners, each aligning with the brand’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility. These included PridePads Africa, an initiative dedicated to improving menstrual health and education in Africa; Protect Our Winters (POW), a group focused on combating climate change and its impact on winter sports; The Conservation Alliance, which works towards the protection of wild places for their habitat and recreation values; and American Whitewater, an organization committed to the preservation and management of America’s whitewater rivers. This focused approach allowed Outdoor Prolink to make a more significant, targeted impact in areas crucial to both the outdoor community and the broader global community.

In addition to the core four, Outdoor Prolink also selected seven non-profit partners to support at key intervals throughout the year. The following nonprofits were monthly beneficiaries of donations at checkout, based on when contributions would be most impactful for them. This strategy ensured that each organization received increased visibility and support precisely when it mattered most. These seven non-profits included Protect Our Rivers, SheJumps, dZi Foundation, Big City Mountaineers, The Venture Out Project, Latino Outdoors, and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. Aligning donation cycles with key initiatives and critical awareness campaigns of these non-profits not only amplified the effectiveness of the support but also deepened the connection between these organizations and the Outdoor Prolink community.

“Giving back is not just a part of our business model; it’s at the core of who we are,” said Gareth Richards, founder of Outdoor Prolink. “We’re thrilled to continue supporting the outdoor community and deepen our engagement with our non-profit partners in 2024.”

Justin Van Saghi, Strategic Partnerships Manager of Protect Our Winters, added, “The impacts of climate change on the places we love—our communities, trails, mountains, and waterways— are greater than ever. Changing the trajectory of climate change will take smarts. It will take guts. And it will take passion. POW is laser-focused on forming relationships with key decision-makers across the country to ensure our priorities are on their agenda, work that would not be possible without the generous support of partners like Outdoor Prolink.”

Claire Smallwood, Executive Director of SheJumps, expressed gratitude, adding, “SheJumps just celebrated 16 years, and we are proud that as our organization has grown, so have our partnerships. The donation program with Outdoor Prolink is a tremendous honor for us and will allow us to not only grow in our programming but also ensure that we are offering as many free events as possible. Eliminating barriers to outdoor activities is a core component of what we do, and we are thrilled to have Outdoor Prolink’s support with that effort!”

The Conservation Alliance’s Conor McElyea, Senior Director of Membership and Partnerships said, “Throughout 2023, The Conservation Alliance helped 20 conservation projects cross the finish line, protecting 11.7 million acres of land, 40 river miles, removing the Klamath River dam – the largest dam removal in US history, and canceling oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. As a member of The Conservation Alliance, Outdoor Prolink played an important role in making these possible, and we look forward to their continued support as we move into a big year in 2024.”

In 2024, Outdoor Prolink remains steadfast in its commitment to impactful philanthropy and deepening partnerships with non-profit organizations. The gratitude and recognition from partners like SheJumps, Protect Our Winters, and The Conservation Alliance highlight the substantial impact of Outdoor Prolink’s efforts. As Outdoor Prolink moves forward, it is poised to continue its legacy of meaningful support and community engagement, making 2024 a year of anticipated growth and continued positive influence in the outdoor industry.

The Global Winter Sports Industry Unites Around A Unique Climate Pact

PARK CITY, UT (February 6, 2024)The Winter Sports Sustainability Network (WSN), managed by Peak 63 and the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), in collaboration with Snowsports Industries America (SIA) are proud to announce the establishment of a transformative Climate Pact, bringing together prominent ski, snowboard, binding, and boot brands from Europe and the United States in a unified commitment to accelerate climate action within the winter sports industry.

The winter sports industry is highly affected by climate change, but also acknowledges its role in the global environmental challenges through the products, value chains, activities and travels it generates. In fact, we, our customers, and the athletes we sponsor, all emit greenhouse gas.

“Given the global nature of the winter sports industry, it’s imperative that we tackle climate change on a global scale. SIA and WSN co-developed the Climate Pact in an effort to engage the global winter sports community around a set of meaningful commitments. Having the most influential hard goods brands join the Climate Pact not only aligns us on a defined path forward, but also shows the world that we’re tackling climate at the speed and scale that it demands.” Nick Sargent, President, Snowsports Industries America

To learn more, please sign up for the upcoming online press conference hosted by Peak 63 in collaboration with FESI, Protect Our Winters [POW] and SIA. The press conference will go live on Monday, February 12th at 8:00 a.m. MT and those interested can sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/2zh7e8re.

By signing the Climate Pact, the industry publicly formalizes its commitment to addressing climate change and achieving a net-zero carbon emissions future. For this purpose, we will work along the following five principles:

  • Focusing our efforts on the required greenhouse gas emission reductions, to keep global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement.
  • Progressing our climate commitment by joining the UN Race to Zero Campaign before end of 2024, with validated climate targets through internationally verified climate initiatives.
  • Guiding the industry forward in collaborative action, where the more ‘climate advanced’ companies support and guide their less advanced peers.
  • Leveraging our influence to drive systemic change by advocating for progressive state, national and international climate policy.
  • Recognizing how our industry contributes to the climate crisis, and publicly addressing climate change as a top management priority for our business.

The Climate Pact unites the winter sports industry to address the climate crisis head-on and take decisive action to meet the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. Through this collective initiative, we acknowledge the industry’s vulnerability to global warming, using our brand recognition and industry organizations to propel systemic change.

The industry climate pact is signed by the following member brands: Atomic, Black Crows, Blizzard, Burton, Capita, Dalbello, Decathlon, Elan, Fischer, Jones Snowboards, K2, Kästle, Marker, OneWay, Rossignol, Salomon, Tecnica, The Nidecker Group and Völkl.

The winter sports sustainability network is a platform for collaboration, learning and joint sustainability action within the winter sports industry. WSN is managed by Peak 63 under the governance of FESI and in partnership with Snowsports Industries America.

“100% Plastic Free? We Failed.” icebreaker’s uncompromising transparency on not yet achieving plastic-free goals

DENVER (Feb. 1, 2024) – In a bold move on their ongoing journey to transparency, icebreaker proudly announces the brand’s failure of only reaching 96.14% plastic-free fibres. In 2020, the brand set the “plastic-free goal by 2023”, at the time 87% of their fibres were natural or plant-based. Today, the brand highlights the acknowledgment of haven’t reached the goal but takes pride in all their remarkable achievements: while significant progress has been made, the final 4% will be even more rewarding.

Failure goes hand in hand with opportunities to learn, evolve and grow. The brand – known for its commitment to taking unnecessary plastic out of performance apparel – embraces failure as a stepping stone on the path to evolution. The brand will continue to innovate to 100% plastic free, and with the end in sight, icebreaker is now taking a proactive stance by establishing their next aim: to source 100% of its wool from growers that are using regenerative practices by 2028, through a close partnership with the growers and The New Zealand Merino Company.

Embracing this journey and showing an unwavering dedication to nature, icebreaker continues to help pave the way towards a petrochemical-free future, having already substituted 14% of the remaining synthetic content in our styles with bio-based alternatives, not choosing the easiest path, but the right one.

Tracing 100% of merino wool to its source exemplifies the brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing. Strengthening relationships, the brand highlights their groundbreaking 10-year supply contract between icebreaker and growers, showcasing the dedication to fostering strong relationships throughout their global supply chain, and supporting responsible stewardship of the ecosystems within which they operate.

icebreaker’s involvement as one of the founding partners of NZM ZQRX programme, with 100% of its Growers Club members participating, underscores the brand’s commitment to partnering for the betterment of the planet. This programme supports icebreaker’s mission to transition to regeneratively grown wool, a key milestone towards their vision of sourcing 100% of their wool from growers that are using regenerative practices by 2028.

icebreaker emphasizes that the journey is as important as the destination, with a nod to the last 4% being even more rewarding and where they will carve out most meaningful achievements. icebreaker remains steadfast in its commitment to pave the way for a future where sustainability becomes the most beaten path, not the most difficult.

There has never been a better time to move to natural.

The 2024 Transparency Update is now available to view at www.icebreaker.com/en-us/transparency. For more information about icebreaker and the Transparency Update, please contact Senior Account Manager Kevin McCormack at kevin.mccormack@rygr.us.

Alpacka Raft Releases Three New Models for 2024

MANCOS, Colo. (Feb 1, 2024) – Alpacka Raft, the packrafting industry leader, today announced three new models for 2024. The Colorado-based brand is releasing two new tandem packrafts, the Tango and the Rendezvous, and is updating the Refuge, one of the company’s most innovative models.

“As packrafting continues to grow in popularity, we want to make sure that we are making packrafts that fit the diverse needs of a wide variety of paddlers,” said Thor Tingey, CEO of Alpacka Raft. “This year, we are continuing to push the limits of the sport with performance improvements to the Refuge and the Valkyrie. And, we are also developing products for more casual users, with new tandem models like the Tango and the Rendezvous, which are perfect for family trips, fishing, and exploring new landscapes with a partner.”

The Tango is a two-person, kayak-style packraft ideal for serene lakes, meandering rivers up to class II, and gentle coastal areas. Its 13.1-inch cargo hull and inflatable floor are designed for stability and comfort, making it an excellent option for longer days. The Tango features a built-in cargo fly, inflatable backrest support for both paddlers, and ample leg room for kayak-style paddling, allowing for comfort and adaptability during all-day excursions. This model features a low-profile hull and is the brand’s fastest tandem packraft. The tandem design is ideal for couples and families looking to explore the backcountry together. The extra speed also makes it an ideal adventure racing packraft. Available in an eye-catching Banana Split color, the packraft weighs 12.9lb and sells for $1,900.

The Rendezvous is an innovative packraft-style canoe that uses a unique design, integrating a central thwart instead of traditional seats to help make the packraft fast and stable when paddling or fishing on flat water. This packraft is Alpacka’s most comfortable two-person model, and the new construction helps to cut down on weight and bulk, making it easy to pack and carry. The one-size, two-person Rendezvous replaces the brand’s previous Oryx model and comes equipped with a cargo fly zipper for hauling gear inside the tubes. With a weight of 10.0lb and a price tag of $1,700, the Rendezvous is perfect for long days on lakes and rivers and is the best fishing packraft in the lineup.

The Refuge is Alpacka Raft’s ode to backcountry enthusiasts and wilderness travelers. The 2024 Refuge is the third iteration of the packraft, and this new model optimizes the best features of the prior versions. The new version weighs in at a mere 6.5lb and offers a blend of agility and durability that allows it to excel in all types of conditions. The fabrics pair the brand’s lightweight 210d nylon hull with a full-strength 840d floor for maximum abrasion resistance in shallow backcountry rivers. A whitewater deck keeps paddlers dry, while the Cargo Fly internal storage system allows users to pack gear inside the tubes. Alpacka also added a lightweight 2-point thigh strap system, giving paddlers control of the packraft when navigating smaller backcountry whitewater. The new Refuge is priced at $1,325 and is available in medium and large sizes.

These new models are available at alpackaraft.com.

Today, Front Runner products enjoy a well-deserved reputation for quality, design and durability. On May 20, 2021, Front Runner was acquired by Dometic.
