HEAD RENEW – revolutionary skis for a sustainable future

They are reusable and recyclable: HEAD will launch their revolutionary and sustainable RENEW skis on February 20th, 2025. These skis are made from materials that can be renewed and recycled thanks to a new technology. Studies show that this new, innovative concept reduces their carbon footprint by 26 per cent* and that the wooden core can be reused up to five times**.

HEAD has been developing innovative skis for 75 years. This completely new concept is a major step forward for HEAD towards more sustainable ski production. With its combination of greater sustainability and high performance, the HEAD RENEW redefines skiing. Thanks to a new technology in ski construction, these skis can be dismantled into their individual parts at the end of their service life. An internal study has proven that the wooden core can be reused up to five times with the same level of performance. The fibreglass and ABS suspension inserts can also be reused for new skis. The other components on the RENEW such as the top sheet, tail protector, steel edges and the base layer can be recycled.

Reduces carbon footprint by up to 26 percent

HEAD RENEW skis represent a real revolution, both ecologically and in terms of cost effectiveness. A product carbon footprint analysis by Green Vision Solutions confirms that up to 26 percent carbon can be saved in the production of recycled RENEW skis compared to a new pair of skis.

EUR 100 voucher when you return the skis

These skis will be available for the first time from 20th February 2025 in lengths of 160 cm and 170 cm only via the website www.head.com in Euro countries. To make sure that the skis are reused and recycled, they need to be returned to HEAD within one to five years of use. The exact instructions are also on the website. When you return the skis, you will be rewarded with a 100 Euro voucher.

High-performance all-mountain skis

The HEAD RENEW is a particularly powerful all-mountain ski with rocker. Available in the two lengths 160 and 170 cm, it has a side cut of 130 mm (tip), 78 mm (centre) and 110 mm (tail). The radius is 12.3 m (160 cm) or 14.2 m (170 cm). HEAD RENEW skis are made with a wood core cap construction. They consist of a vertically laminated wood core with fibreglass reinforcement and a durable top sheet that runs the entire length of the ski. This forgiving design is ideal for taking skiers to the next level. Other highlights of the ski include ERA 2.0, the Protective Frame Design, the integrated Tip Protector and the thicker, structured top sheet.

49 International Shipping Companies Opt In to Protect Endangered Whales & Reduce Air Pollution in Coastal Communities: 2024 Results and Rankings

Vessels are critical to our economy, with over 80% of the world’s trade facilitated by the maritime industry. The average container ship measures approximately four football fields, carrying about 15,000 standard 20-foot containers. These vessels carry goods and materials across the world’s oceans, often overlapping with important habitat for marine life. For marine species like whales, which have not evolved to avoid these massive ships, this can result in deadly collisions known as ship strikes. Ship strikes are a major contributor of mortality to whales around the globe and are especially of concern in whale hotspots that overlap with major international shipping routes. However, if large vessels reduce their speeds to 10 knots or less in these areas when the likelihood of whale presence is highest, the risk of fatal strikes is reduced by 50% or more. Furthermore, reduced speeds result in fewer emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. This is why Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies (BWBS) works to incentivize global shipping lines to voluntarily participate in vessel speed reduction measures in key areas off of the California coast.

The Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) Season is designed to coincide with endangered whale migration as well as peak ozone seasons for California coastal communities. In the 2024 Season, BWBS verified that 743 vessels, across 49 of the world’s largest shipping lines, opted-in to reduce their speeds. BWBS’ 2024 Season – the program’s 10-year anniversary – was the most significant yet, marking a jump in total participating shipping lines – from 33 to 49 – and an increase in distance traveled at “whale-safer” speeds.

Shipping Lines Ranked In Top Tier for Performance Almost Doubles

In 2024, the number of shipping lines that qualified for the top award tier (“Sapphire,” with 85%+ total miles traveled in the VSR zones at 10 knots or less) almost doubled from the prior season, from 13 to 23. They are:

Overall Fleet Cooperation Continues to Rise

In 2024, cumulative program cooperation rates continued to trend upward in both the San Francisco and Southern California VSR zones. Program-wide, 85% of the total distance traveled by participating vessels – equating to 425,981 nautical miles – was traveled at the requested whale-safer speeds of 10 knots or less. Out of all of the traffic traveling within the VSR zones, 78% of all container ships and 97% of all auto/RORO ships elected to participate in the BWBS program.

BLACK DIAMOND EQUIPMENT ISSUES RECALL FOR THE VISION HARNESS

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (February 27, 2025) – Black Diamond Equipment® is recalling the Vision harness due to premature degradation of its specialized materials and construction. This has the potential to create a risk of serious injury or death. Consumers who own the Black Diamond Vision harness should immediately stop using it and follow the recall procedures.

To date, Black Diamond has received one incident report involving a heavily used product in which the waist belt failed in an atypical manner. There have been no injuries or fatalities. While the root cause is still under investigation, Black Diamond is recalling all the units out of an abundance of caution.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada have been notified. Black Diamond is committed to addressing this matter swiftly and proactively.

The updated StageTwo platform hitch bike rack leads the charge with significant enhancements to its already stellar reputation. The new V-shaped tray design makes loading bikes a breeze, especially when paired with the RampUp accessory, which now stores right on the rack. Whether you’re hauling traditional bikes or e-bikes, the StageTwo’s increased weight capacity (up to 70 lbs per bike for 2″ hitches) and expanded wheelbase compatibility (30″ to 52″) ensure your two-wheeled companions travel first class.

Yakima’s cargo box lineup will also expand this spring with new sizes in the SkyBox NX and CBX collections. The SkyBox NX Skinny offers a slim 26″ profile perfect for urban adventurers or those looking to keep space on their rack for a bike or kayak, while the SkyBox NX XXL provides a cavernous 22 cubic feet of space for gear-heavy expeditions. The CBX line similarly grows with the introduction of the CBX LG and XXL models, featuring a premium automotive finish that turns heads while putting in the miles.

The all-new SkyPeak HD hardshell rooftop tent transforms any vehicle into a base camp extraordinaire. This four-season home-away-from-home features three-sided access, dimmable USB-powered lighting, and strong T-slot mounting points for up to 300 pounds of additional gear. A full suite of accessories, including an annex room and crossbar kit, makes the SkyPeak HD the Swiss Army knife of rooftop tents. Not to be outdone, SkyPeak’s softshell brother, SkyRise, has been completely redesigned. The SkyRise HD is built tough for all conditions, with durable Ripstop polyester fabric and a waterproof coating. The SkyRise SL is light, strong, and ready for any journey. Both tents feature quick deployment, comfy memory foam mattresses, and panoramic views. All new Yakima tents also feature our new custom barefoot comfortable ladders, and our new low-profile tent clamps.

The OverNOut™ awning family welcomes two new members: the OverNOut 180 and 270 XL. With up to 120 square feet of coverage and optional full wall kits, these awnings ensure mother nature never rains on your parade. Full Wall Kits are available for the new styles.

Finally, the new LowRider™ trailer rounds out the 2025 lineup, offering a purpose-built solution ideal for the fishing community but perfect for paddlesports enthusiasts as well. With adjustable crossbar positions, fully submersible LED lighting, an available upgrade to alloy wheels and a 750-pound capacity, the LowRider makes transporting kayaks and canoes as smooth as glass on a calm lake.
