Cortez, CO — Jul 17, 2012

Osprey Packs, Inc., a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs to comfortably and efficiently carry gear, announced its biggest Colorado Bike to Work event to date. On June 27th the Osprey team, based in Cortez, Colorado, had 91 percent participation in the bicycle awareness event. Forty-two of the potential forty-six employees biked or walked to work, with many departments recording 100 percent participation.

Biking and walking a total of 426 miles round trip, the Osprey employees saved 21 gallons of fuel and eliminated a total of 597 pounds of carbon from the Earth’s atmosphere.

Now in its seventeenth year, Colorado Bike to Work Day is aimed at getting people to leave their cars at home and bike to work. It is the highlight of Colorado Bike Month, which celebrates bicycling for transportation, fun and health. Osprey is a longtime participant in the Colorado Bike to Work challenge, having taken part since 2006.

“We’re thrilled with the results of our largest Colorado Bike to Work Day yet,” said Sam Mix, outdoor marketing manager at Osprey. “Our team is always excited to participate and this year was no exception. Of course a great ride or walk to work is reward enough, but we love to incentivize this event, and this year we were able to do so with tickets to Michael Franti, Grace Potter, Devotchkaa and Josh Ritter concerts. We’re so proud of the Osprey team, as they set an example for other business to incorporate healthy practices into the workplace.”

In an effort to continue the bike to work love, Osprey has also created the Osprey Commuter Pledge Challenge. The program encourages employees to find non-motorized transportation to and from work 19 more times prior to October 2012. With 32 employees already pledging to participate, the challenge could potentially save 405 gallons of fuel and eliminate 11,332 pounds of carbon from the Earth’s atmosphere.

About Osprey

The collection includes packs and bags designed to help adventurers enjoy their outdoor, biking and travel pursuits.

The location of company headquarters in Cortez, Colorado, near the rugged San Juan Mountains on the edge of desert canyon country, provides a constant inspiration and a superb testing ground for Osprey products. Osprey also maintains a product development office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, near the factories where they manufacture their products, ensuring face-to-face relationships and transparency with their suppliers. In 2009, Osprey opened a design office in Mill Valley, California, a hub of design talent and the birthplace of mountain biking. All three of these offices play a crucial role in creating Osprey gear that lasts a lifetime.

To celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2009, Osprey launched the All Mighty Guarantee, an enhancement of a lifetime warranty that was already one of the most robust in the industry.
