“Between the natural and cultural treasures Bears Ears National Monument boasts, there is no doubt the area is ripe for the administration to give careful consideration of any proposed actions or changes to the protections currently in place. The BLM’s recent announcement of a new “final” management plan thwarts the decades of input from the tribes, recreationists and conservationists, not to mention the ongoing legal challenge, in order to satisfy a few special interests — all of this at the potential, but likely expense, of known and yet to be discovered sacred and culturally significant resources. OIA stands firmly with those who want to protect this uniquely special and western landscape and urges BLM and the administration as a whole to stop weakening protections at Bears Ears.” – Patricia Rojas-Ungar, vice president of government affairs, Outdoor Industry Association
