In 2015 President Obama launched the “Every Kid in a Park” initiative with a public website to provide free passes to fourth graders and their families for access to any national park, national forest, refuge or BLM land. Every Kid in a Park will become a formal program within the NPS ensuring that every fourth grader, for generations to come, has free access to one of our nation’s best classrooms – America’s great outdoors.
In celebration of the NPS centennial, OIA and Outdoor Foundation launched the Parks4Kids campaign to fund trips that get fourth-graders outdoors. Through Every Kid in a Park, 4th graders have free access to national parks across the country, the limitation with this is getting the kids to the parks.
Parks4Kids was created to provide micro grants to teachers, schools and nonprofits to connect our next generation with our nation’s parks. For only $10, you can give a kid a powerful park experience!
The Foundation and Association’s campaign goal is to connect at least 100,000 kids with meaningful park experiences – leading to ongoing outdoor activities and ultimately a nation of outdoor enthusiasts.
