This amendment to the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2019 would exempt Alaska’s two national forests (Tongass and Chugach) from the Roadless Rule of 2001, which prohibits road construction (or reconstruction) as well as harvesting timber. Thirty percent of forests are Roadless Areas, and these places are often remote landscapes providing unparalleled backcountry recreation; this bill puts those places and experiences at risk.
