ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia – Dec. 1, 2020 – VSSL, creator of modern preparedness essentials for the outdoors, today announced its third-annual holiday collaboration with custom knifemaker Kay Foye. Together, VSSL and Foye will offer three collections of ten knives, which feature custom handles made of elements such as fossilized wooly mammoth tooth, ram’s horn, elk antler and more. VSSL will donate a portion of all proceeds to a local partner organization and will be hosting a social giveaway to award one knife to a community hero.

To commemorate this third year of partnering with Kay, we’re offering an extensive collection of knives comprised of materials that Foye has been collecting since our first collaboration. The components traveled with her across the country as her business expanded, and are a symbol of how her career – and VSSL’s partnership – have evolved and flourished.”
When Weimer originally met Foye in 2016, he was enamored with Foye’s ability to create knives steeped in nostalgia – with handles infused with mementos, keepsakes and artifacts that were personal to Foye or the recipient. Weimer proposed a partnership, serendipitously at a moment when Foye was considering closing her business, and Foye considers it instrumental in her success since.
“Todd has been an amazing and supportive partner to work with since we met three years ago,” said Foye. “I attribute so much of my business growth to my partnership with VSSL, and I’ll always be grateful that Todd believed in my work enough to use the VSSL platform to truly launch my business.”
The 2020 collaboration features 30 knives – marking Foye’s first full, cohesive collection that she has ever produced. The custom-handled Buck 110 folding knives will come with a leather sheath and branded whetstone, and will be offered in three collections:
- RAM – Featuring custom handles of ram’s horn, buckeye burl, jasper and turquoise inlays – five of which also include moose antler
- ELK – Featuring custom handles of elk antler, aspen wood, and stone inlays
- MAMMOTH – Featuring custom handles of fossilized wooly mammoth tooth, purpleheart wood, and blue oak inlays
In addition to helping support Foye through the partnership, VSSL will be donating ten percent of all proceeds to Communitas, a Vancouver-based organization that helps find employment for youth with special needs. Since VSSL was founded, it has employed Communitas members for product assembly, and the brand is proud to continue to give back to the organization. VSSL will also host a social giveaway around the collaboration – gifting one knife to an “Unsung Hero” that has positively impacted their local community.
