OIA is actively engaged at the state and local level to grow the outdoor recreation economy. OIA has helped lead efforts to support the creation of outdoor recreation offices across the United States. To date, 16 states have created offices of outdoor recreation, task forces, or policy advisors to serve as the state lead in bolstering economic development and the outdoor recreation economy; promoting health and wellness; ensuring conservation and stewardship of public lands and waters; educating and engaging children in the outdoors; and serving as a point of contact to the businesses, stakeholders and different levels of government that care about the outdoor recreation industry.
