OUTDOOR RETAILER DEBUTS MEDIA PANEL AT SUMMER 2024: “NAVIGATING TODAY’S CHAOTIC MEDIA LANDSCAPE”

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California (May 9, 2024) – Outdoor Retailer, the premier U.S. gathering and business event for the outdoor industry, today announced it will host a media panel, “Navigating Today’s Chaotic Media Landscape,” during the upcoming summer show. Panelists include editors from Gear Patrol, Rolling Stone, WIRED, and contributors to The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal who will share best practices and take questions from the audience. The session, which takes place on Monday, June 17 at 10:30 a.m., is part of three days of learning and networking during Outdoor Retailer and Outdoor Design + Innovation Summer this June 17-19, 2024 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The panelists will provide information for brands, retailers, and industry leaders on the changing media landscape and ideas for generating exposure. Panelists include:

  • Perri Ormont Blumberg: Her work has appeared in the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fox News Lifestyle, Today.com, Tripadvisor, and Business Insider, among others;
  • Michael Calore, WIRED, Director, Consumer Tech and Culture: Oversees WIRED’s consumer products coverage and culture coverage in print and on the web, and is one of the hosts of WIRED’s weekly news podcast, Gadget Lab;
  • Oscar Hartzog: Rolling Stone, eCommerce Writer: Covers a range of verticals including fashion, spirits, streaming, and outdoor gear;
  • Brigid Mander: Known for her stories on travel, adventure, people, gear, and trends for skiing and cycling for outlets, including Backcountry Magazine, The Information and The Wall Street Journal;
  • Steve Mazzucchi, Gear Patrol, Senior Editor: Mazzucchi covers a range of topics for Gear Patrol, especially those pertaining to bicycling, snowboarding, and motorcycling.

“This accomplished group of media professionals will share insights on the trends, technologies, and new dynamics in journalism from their respective backgrounds, including perspective around outdoor, business, fashion, and tech,” said Sean Smith, show director of Outdoor Retailer. “They’ve all helped tell the outdoor industry’s story through the years, and we’re grateful for the role they’ve played in connecting brands and retailers with consumers and fostering growth across the industry. The panel session will take place in The Camp, located on the Outdoor Retailer show floor. Conversation will cover: Staying relevant during a noisy news cycle; the role of affiliate marketing; ethics; how journalists source stories; the role of PR; best media pitches; and more.

Filled with panel discussions and conversations led by industry experts, sessions cover retail insights, marketing strategy, outdoor access, sustainability, design trends, and more.
