In December, President Biden signed into law legislation that will place additional restrictions on imports of goods made from forced labor from China. The “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act” establishes a “rebuttable presumption” that any goods imported from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China are by tainted forced labor and are therefore prohibited from entry into the United States. This rebuttable presumption will go into effect on June 21, 2022. In the meantime, the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force will hold a public comment period and a public hearing in which stakeholders can weigh in on the development of a forced labor enforcement strategy. Join OIA and our trade counsels from Sorini Samet & Associates to learn more about the major provisions of the new law, the enforcement strategy development process, and how OIA and your business may participate in the public comment period.
