Atlanta, GA
Community Description
The Thrive Outside Atlanta Community is led by the Trust for Public Land together with a diverse network of partners. The Thrive Outside Community grant allows the network to deepen partnerships with youth education providers, design a scaled program and ultimately reach a much wider audience of children and other under-resourced Atlantans in experiential outdoor education, both on the Chattahoochee River and at close-to-home Atlanta parks and trails. Thrive Outside Atlanta Community partners encourage youth and adults to participate in both urban outdoor experiences and more distant natural outdoor experiences. Atlanta will leverage this grant funding to ensure the long-term sustainability of the network by engaging foundations and individual donors.
Community UPDATES
The Thrive Outside Atlanta community is busy with a variety of programming for their local youth. The West Atlanta Watershed Alliance and the Chattahoochee Nature Center have been working with the Trust for Public Land to provide programs for the YMCA’s and Boys & Girls Clubs. While Thrive Outside Atlanta is still focused on experience along the Chattahoochee River they have found that close-to-home experiences at local parks has allowed for an ease in getting the programs running and more youth attending. They will have a particular focus in bringing the programming to the youth as they move forward.
Visit the Atlanta Thrive Outside site for local outdoor activities.
