NEMO’s 100k Polybag elimination project Wins New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility’s Sustainability Slam

NEMO, an award-winning designer of outdoor gear and accessories that are built to improve the experience of adventure, has won another award for its 100K Polybag Elimination Project, this time, from New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR). The project was also awarded the GOOD Green Design earlier this year from the Chicago Anthenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. This is also the second award NEMO has won from NHBSR—in 2018, it was recognized as a small business leader for the environment.

NHBSR spotlighted the inspiring sustainability efforts of fourteen companies and nonprofits at their 7th Annual Sustainability Slam on Nov. 4. The event not only highlighted local stories of impact, but also virtually brought together over 100 sustainability professionals and business leaders from many industries to connect, share, and learn from each other. The finalists demonstrated positive change in many areas including workplace inclusivity, waste reduction, clean energy, advocacy, purpose driven leadership and creativity. NEMO was recognized as a small business leader in the Workplace category.

The 100K Polybag Elimination Project, a partnership project created with DAC, its tent pole manufacturer, is an example of how combining forces through the supply chain can create new possibilities. NEMO has been able to not only remove an unnecessary polybag from its packaging, but also reduce the resources needed to make a sewn pole bag. The Repreve® recycled, undyed, uncoated fabric bag with recycled thread uses less energy and water to manufacture. There is no webbing, cord, or plastic hardware, minimizing materials and creating a straight-forward solution. On average, 1.3 plastic bottles are repurposed per bag. DAC continues to offer this solution to its other brand partners, magnifying the impact.
