With its new Spring 2022 line, Outdoor Research, the Seattle-based leader in outdoor apparel and gear, releases a collection of products directly tied to core company values — community, collaboration, innovation, passion and curiosity. The new collection yields an exceptionally groundbreaking and thoughtful program, highlighting the results of working thoughtfully with collaborative partners.  An overview of the Spring 2022 line:

  • Community — Creating greater access to the outdoors means trusted gear being available in more sizes. In Fall 2021, OR unveiled extended sizing in 24 men’s and women’s core products. In Spring 2022, it is expanding with women’s Plus Sizing. Sizes XS-3X and 0-24 are available.

  • Collaboration — A collaboration between Outdoor Research and women’s workwear brand Dovetail helps enable women to enter and succeed in non-traditional occupations with the most reliable, durable outdoor gear – gaiters, gloves and headwear.

  • Innovation — For 40 years innovation has been core to what Outdoor Research does. This season a project with fabric-maker Pertex® creates the most durable, lightweight and breathable waterproof shell on the market. Another innovation, VerticalX™ SuperStrand insulation, results in the best warmth-to-weight layering package OR has ever offered.

  • Passion — Passion for the activities Outdoor Research employees love drives its product line. Often, that involves the passion of ambassadors and friends as well. This season, in collaboration with Marjana Tafader, climber/mentor for Young Women Who Crush in NYC, OR introduces the first technical hijab for outdoor sports. It is also introducing sportswear lines designed in collaboration with climbing athletes Quinn Mason and Keenan Takahashi.

  • Curiosity — The OR team is constantly striving to learn and improve — in products, as a brand, as a team, and as individuals. Curiosity drives that. And curiosity, along with the quest for constant improvement, drove updates and upgrades to already best-selling lines like Ferrosi softshells, Foray and Aspire waterproof shells, and Echo sun and base layers.

The following overview offers key highlights of the Spring 2022 Outdoor Research line.

OUTERWEAR AND INSULATION

Helium AscentShell Jacket — In 2022, Outdoor Research introduces the most durable, lightweight and breathable waterproof shell on the market today – the Helium AscentShell Jacket. The product of collaboration with fabric technology partner Pertex® and athlete team members Graham Zimmerman and Emilie Drinkwater, the Helium AscentShell jacket uses an exclusive fabric construction that combines the durability of Pertex Diamond Fuse fabric with the breathable comfort and waterproof protection of OR’s electrospun AscentShell™ technology. AscentShell™ x Pertex® Shield Air is built to perform with the highest caliber of light weight, durability and reliable waterproofness. This combination pairs two premier technologies in a 326-gram shell (men’s large) with high-mobility fit and functional features ideal for fast and light alpine adventure. Men’s and women’s. $399

SuperStrand LT Hoodie, Jacket and Vest — SuperStrand LT styles employ a unique new synthetic insulation — VerticalX™ SuperStrand  — that helps create the best warmth-to-weight layering package Outdoor Research has ever offered. Ideal for four-season warmth, this collection features a unique quilt pattern that reduces stitching, creating an uninterrupted flow of insulation and warmth. Soft and supple construction creates an amazingly comfortable wearing experience. The unique lofted polyester strands in VerticalX™ SuperStrand mimic the shape of thousands of down clusters connected along a strand, truly blending the best properties of down and synthetic insulation. This material has extremely high loft, offers warmth if it gets wet, and is more resistant to compression over time than down. This ultra lightweight layering package (309 grams, men’s medium hoodie) is capped with a bluesign® approved, windproof 12D nylon shell fabric. Men’s and women’s. $219

SUN PROTECTION AND LAYERING

ActiveIce Spectrum Sun Hoodie — Combining UPF and active-cooling technologies to offer optimal performance in hot, sunny climates, the ActiveIce Spectrum Sun Hoodie is the ultimate protective, versatile summer layer. The platform starts with soft, chafe-free and ultra-lightweight polyester/spandex fabric that’s comfortable against the skin, airy and quick-drying in hot climates, stretchy for movement and protects against the sun with a UPF 50+ rating. Outdoor Research adds in thermo-regulating and cooling ActiveIce technology, which feels cool to touch (as opposed to feeling cool after responding to moisture). The top is cut with OR’s Dynamic Reach design, so that the body doesn’t ride up when arms are overhead. Other details include a three-panel hood, and thumb holes. Men’s and women’s. Also available in long-sleeve tees for men and women, and short-sleeve tees for men. $79

Echo Hoodie — For warm weather, the Echo Hoodie is a sought-after piece in the Outdoor Research collection because it is light, airy and protects against the sun with UPF 15 and 20 protection (depending on color). For Spring 2022, it also uses a new bluesign-approved 100% recycled polyester fabric with a softer hand feel and better stretch. Men’s and women’s. Also available this season in men’s and women’s Extended sizing and women’s Plus sizing up to 3XL. $69
