The Conservation Alliance has added three new staff members to its team and four members to its Board of Directors. The new additions are a signal of where the organization is headed with its advocacy program, communications capabilities, expansion into new industries, and broadening its approach to conservation.

Shoren Brown joins the Alliance as its Government Affairs & Advocacy Director, bringing extensive experience building and running national conservation campaigns, from Bristol Bay to the Arctic, as well as numerous successful campaigns across the West. Before joining the Alliance, Brown consulted non-governmental organizations, private corporations, and charitable foundations. In his new role, he will define and lead the Alliance’s advocacy strategy and help the organization amplify the business voice for conservation in Washington, D.C., and across North America.

Alie Kouzoukian and Allison Hartz join the Alliance as its first-ever dedicated communications team. Kouzoukian, Creative and Digital Manager, is a seasoned senior-creative who most recently spent five years at KEEN, Inc. Hartz brings nine years of marketing and strategic communications in the outdoor industry and a background in environmental law and policy to her role as Communications Director. Together, the pair will support the organization’s strategies for its various program areas and help better serve its member companies and grantees in bringing the business voice to bear on conservation.

The newest additions to The Conservation Alliance’s Board of Directors–Carol Shu, Erik Burbank, Annie Nyborg, and Soraya Shattuck–bring experiences, skill sets, and expertise that round out the current board and help the organization expand its reach to new industries and audiences. Shu is the Senior Manager of Global Sustainability at The North Face, where her work ranges from retail waste to sustainable products and materials. She collaborates with cross-functional teams across the brand to action on TNF’s sustainability strategy and goals. Burbank is an environmentally engaged global brand and business builder with 25 years in the active lifestyle/outdoor industry with brands like Nike, Timberland, Helly Hansen, and KEEN, Inc.

Nyborg is the Sustainability Director at Peak Design, a certified B-Corp, where she manages a diverse range of environmental initiatives, from conservation to climate impact, and has made justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the outdoors a top priority at the company. Shattuck, Executive Director at the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund, brings a unique understanding of local, national, and international challenges around conservation, as well as experience in grant administration, partnering with grassroots organizations, fundraising and donor engagement. The new board members will serve a three-year term until 2024, with the option of serving a second term.

“This expansion of our board and staff team is incredibly exciting. Our grant program, advocacy work, and communications channels are all poised to grow significantly with the support of a dynamic and well-rounded board and staff,” said Brady Robinson, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance.
