Sec. Zinke’s Monumental Choice, Comment Today
Under President Trump’s recent Executive Order, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is currently reviewing the 27 national monuments over 100,000 acres that have been designated or expanded since 1996 under the Antiquities Act.
In other words, these 27 national monuments, from Bears Ears in Utah to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, are under threat.
As a part of this review, the Department of Interior is seeking public comment on whether national monuments in the order should be reviewed because they were designated or expanded without adequate outreach and stakeholder input. Additionally comments should cover the following:
– Whether the designation effects multi-use federal land policy
– The effect the monument has on employment, and
– Concerns of state, tribal, and local governments affected by a designation, including the economic development and fiscal condition of affected States, tribes, and localities.
*DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS ON BEARS EARS NATIONAL MONUMENT HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 10, 2017*
*DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS ON THE OTHER 26 MONUMENTS IS JULY 10, 2017*
You can combine your comments on Bears Ears with comments on the other monuments as one submission or you can submit individual comments for each monument.
Please fill out the form below with your information and then use these suggested talking points to formally file comments on the monument review. Any comment you submit will be a part of public record.
