In the last two weeks the Biden Administration has called for a review of Chilean mining conglomerate Antofagasta’s Twin Metals leases next to Boundary Waters and U.S. Senator Tina Smith released a letter urging Secretaries Haaland and Vilsack to initiate a federal mineral withdrawal of lands near Minnesota’s beloved Wilderness that could result in a twenty year ban on mining. Rom and Falconer will break down what these developments mean for Boundary Waters protection and what next steps are needed for permanent protection.
