More than 30 industry brands sign up to sponsor the annual fundraising event to get more kids thriving outside

Washington, DC  (June 5, 2018) —The Outdoor Foundation, the charitable arm of Outdoor Industry Association, announces that tickets for the annual Outsiders Ball are now available for purchase. On July 22, ‘Night 0’ of Outdoor Retailer, 1,000 industry influencers and leaders will gather at the McNichols building in Denver for a night of drinks, food truck fare and gear giveaways — all in the name of giving kids across America outside to experience the fun, joy and many benefits of the regular, outdoor experiences.

Research shows that children in the U.S. spend only seven minutes outside each day. This statistic paints a grim future for outdoor industry, but the Outdoor Foundation is working towards a solution. Purchasing a ticket to Outsiders Ball will help fund the Outdoor Foundation’s work to alleviate the problem of youth outdoor participation and create lifelong outdoorists.

Since its inception six years ago, Outsiders Ball has become the unofficial kickoff to Outdoor Retailer Summer Market and has raised more than $1 million, which has funded youth engagement programs across the country and engaged 400,000 young people in the outdoors – advancing the Outdoor Foundation’s vision of all Americans to thriving outside.

“Kids and families are facing big—but not insurmountable—barriers to getting outside,” said Lise Aageenbrug, executive director of the Outdoor Foundation. “To ensure a bright future for our industry I encourage everyone attending Outdoor Retailer to attend Outsiders Ball on Night 0 where you’ll learn how you can make an impact on increasing the number of kids regularly getting outside.”
