REI Continues Sponsorship of OIA Capitol Summit at Critical Time for Outdoor Business
With outdoor industry voice finally being heard, 2015 is a Pivotal Year

Outdoor Industry Association® (OIA) will hold the 23rd annual Capitol Summit on April 14-15, 2015.  Important public lands and international trade conversations are currently moving forward, providing excellent timing for outdoor business to be heard on Capitol Hill. The event brings together outdoor industry executives and emerging leaders in Washington, D.C. to represent their businesses and to lobby members of Congress and the administration to support industry recreation, trade and business priorities.

The two day event provides attendees with insight into the current political landscape, an overview of OIA’s expertise on trade and recreational issues and a D.C. insiders’ policy briefing and education session.  OIA’s government affairs team arranges a full roster of key meetings with members of Congress and administration officials to help participants effectively deliver the message that the outdoor recreation economy is extremely valuable to America and that the outdoor industry depends on the support of its elected officials.

Key to the success of Capitol Summit are its sponsors. As a long standing title sponsor of the event, REI recognizes the value of this investment as essential to the future of the outdoor industry. Their commitment and participation is critical to OIA’s efforts in D.C. on behalf of the outdoor industry as a whole.

“It’s often said that in politics if you’re not at the table, you’re the meal.  The Capitol Summit is our chance to show lawmakers in D.C. that our industry is at the table,” said Marc Berejka, REI’s Director of Government and Community Affairs.

“The outdoor industry is finally having a significant impact with policymakers in Washington, D.C. and leaders across the country,” said Alex Boian, OIA’s Senior Director of Government Affairs. “REI has clearly been at the forefront of the progress we have made and their continued support of the annual OIA Capitol Summit reflects their commitment to making sure the voice of the outdoor industry is heard loud and clear.”

OIA members can register for the event at

Registration by April 10 is suggested and preferred, but registration for the event will remain open until the beginning of the summit.
