On Friday, August 8 from 12:00 noon through 1:00 p.m., the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Fair Labor Working Group will host a one hour panel discussion at the 2008 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market on ethical and operational challenges within the supply chain. Representatives from key industry businesses will share their experiences in tackling these issues and explore how we can work together to improve our monitoring programs and ultimately factory working conditions.
Monitoring contract factories and working to improve labor conditions is important to all businesses in the outdoor industry, not only because it’s the right thing to do but because it also enhances brand integrity. Accomplishing this, though, is challenging; especially when resources are tight and businesses are faced with competing demands.
The moderator for the panel discussion is Harvey Chan, director of ethical sourcing, Mountain Equipment Co-op and includes panel members Doug Cahn, principal, The Cahn Group and former vice president of human rights, Reebok; Ryan Gellert, managing director, Black Diamond Equipment; Clark Campbell, vice president, design and operations, Outdoor Research; and Nicole Bassett, manager of social compliance, Patagonia.
Those wishing to attend the Fair Labor Working Group panel discussion during ORSM 2008 may visit http://www.outdoorindustry.org to RSVP by August 1 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
