Today, Deuter—the global leader in backpacks and outdoor equipment for mountain pursuits—announces their continued partnership with Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival (BMFBF.) Deuter has been the exclusive backpack sponsor for the internationally recognized film and book competition for 16 years and will continue its support through the first-ever virtual festival that will begin on October 31, 2020.

“The Deuter and BMFBF partnership brings two organizations together that equally value and celebrate  culture and environment through the lens of outdoor mountain pursuits. After 16 years working together, we are so proud to be a part of this series of events that inspires people to get outside and share their passions,” says Jonathan Degenhardt, Managing Director of Deuter USA. “While the format of the festival has changed and we can no longer gather as we typically do in Alberta, I’m confident that the Festival will showcase their first virtual series flawlessly. As outdoor enthusiasts continue to adapt to an increasingly digital world, I believe that we are all hungry for ways to connect to our community, and this festival offers a fantastic way to participate in a rich adventure experience together from the comfort of our homes.”

Since its founding in 1976, mountain enthusiast and film fanatics from around the world have flocked to Banff, Alberta for the annual Mountain Film and Book Festival. The international film and book competitions showcase short films, documentaries and books with the goal of celebrating mountain culture, sports and the environment.

This year, in place of an in-person gathering, the virtual festival will be available to watch on an online platform from October 31 through November 8, 2020 from anywhere on the globe. The event will offer 75 films and 40 events—like author events and guest speakers—to watch from the comfort of home. Festival passes are available now through November 3. Single event tickets go on sale October 31.

To celebrate the event, Deuter designed a custom, official backpack for the festival, The Banff Lite 12L pack, which will be available for purchase on the Mountain Marketplace starting in early November. The Mountain Marketplace is an online platform where all participating vendor content will live and will include links to purchase BMFBF product. The Deuter Banff Lite will also be a give-away in audience draws and contests.

“Although we will all miss the in-person gathering of outdoor enthusiasts and can’t wait to be live again, we are excited to share the 2020 virtual edition of the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival,” says Laurie Harvey, Manager of Strategic Partnerships. “We’re so grateful that we continue to see support from our amazing sponsors, like Deuter, which is especially meaningful during these challenging times and we are more committed than ever to ensuring the festival lives up to everyone’s expectations.”
