Brown Girls Climb (BGC), an organization committed to representation and change in the outdoors, is debuting its updated marketplace to help consumers create positive economic and social change this holiday season. BGC Marketplace is an online directory of value-driven companies designed to help people make a difference with their purchases.

The Marketplace boasts several intersectional filters to help shoppers find Black and Brown-owned companies, companies making significant social or environmental impacts, and/or inclusive designs, like adaptive gear among many others. Shoppers can find gifts from brands making outdoor gear and apparel, health and wellness products, craft food and beverages, art, and accessories. Each company has a profile with a summary of its products, owner, and impact as well as a place for BGC users to review the brand.

This resource is one of many Brown Girls Climb offers to create a more accessible outdoors to the public. The national organization, which established its roots advocating for climbing access for Women of Color, experienced a growing need for more representation in the outdoor industry along with more transparency around how outdoor companies are investing their revenue. Since 2017, they have published an annual holiday gift guide to highlight Black, Indigenous, and POC-owned outdoor companies. Please visit the BGC 2022 Holiday Gift Guide for a curated list of gift recommendations.

“Today, more and more people are conscious about how their money is invested,” says Brown Girls Climb Founder, Bethany Lebewitz. “We want BGC Marketplace to help make those choices easier and help consumers find outdoor goods they can feel good about purchasing.”

Brown Girls Climb is committed to redistributing the revenue generated from BGC Marketplace back to the communities it aims to serve, reinvesting profits to support the organization’s outreach efforts including meet-ups across the United States, and dedicating a percentage of its profits to Land Back initiatives to support land purchases for Indigenous people within the United States.
