Mountain Equipment Launches New Drilite fabric and Range of Ultralight Summer Shells
Building on a strong winter launch of new Hardshells, Mountain Equipment grows range of summer offerings.
Riding on the success of the winter launch of a new range of GORE-TEX products, Mountain Equipment is now focusing their attention onto a collection of ultralight summer shells that utilize Mountain Equipment’s signature Drilite waterproof breathable fabric.
Drilite is a 3-layer fabric exclusive to Mountain Equipment. It features a 20,000 mm Hydrostatic Head, which is the benchmark waterproof rating for serious mountain usage. It also features a 20,000g/sqm/24h breathability rating, so you can count on staying dry on the inside during clammy ascents. Available in a variety of face fabrics for different end use applications, ranging from mountain running to cutting edge alpinism.
The lightest jackets in the range are the single chest pocket Micron (7.6oz, MSRP $180) and the dual hand pocket Lattice (7.8 oz, MSRP $190). Both feature the 12D/50D denier ripstop that balances lightweight with durability for long-term mountain performance. Both jackets feature Mountain Equipment’s trimmest fit block- the newly redesigned active fit. It features a slim, streamlined shape, while still offering excellent freedom of movement through fully articulated and pre-shaped sleeves. This insures moving comfort in mountains, while not dealing with any excess fabric to slow you down. Both jackets use a fully adjustable Mountain Hood. This hood features front and side adjustable toggles, in addition to a laminated and wire stiffened brim. This hood is highly effective in the worst rain and wind squalls imaginable. Both jackets also feature laser cut underarm vents with a laminated vent to allow temperature regulation without bulk or weight. The Micron and Lattice jacket are available for both men and women and are ideal shells for high-speed mountain adventures.
In the middle of the range are the Vector (9.9oz, MSRP $190) and Aeon (11.6 oz, $210) jackets. Optimized for backpacking, trekking and adventure travel, these jackets feature a new Alpine fit which was developed over two years to offer the perfect balance of minimum bulk and completely unhindered movement for the most technical applications while still allowing room for insulating layers and a variety of body shapes. The Mountain Hood is fully adjustable and highly protective for excellent performance in the worst weather. It features a laminated and wired peak to maintain a perfect field of vision and won’t flatten during ferocious gusts. The Aeon Jacket has a three-pocket design that includes a single Napoleon chest pocket for easy access to a compass or GPS. Underarm pit zips with laminated and bonded entry provide extra ventilation whilst remaining unnoticed when not required. The Vector Jacket has a slightly simpler, lighter design with two large mesh backed pockets that provide storage and extra on the move ventilation. Laser cut underarm vents with a protective bonded overlay further aid comfort. Also available is the Aeon Pant, a highly packable waterproof pant that provides the perfect back up plan for year-around usage. The ¾length side zips ensure that the pants are quick and easy to put on, even over mountaineering boots.
At the top end of the range sits the Gryphon Jacket (13.6 oz, MSRP $240)
A fully specified mountain shell that provides crucial defence against the worst weather.Using our new stretch DRILITE® 40D fabric with 70D reinforced weave the Gryphon is a highly protective, tough and light waterproof mountain shell suited to range of demanding activities. With a wired and laminated brim and easily adjusted helmet compatible design the Mountain HC Hood is amongst the most protective available. Allowing a full range of movement and excellent visibility with or without a helmet it will allow you to keep operating effectively in even the most challenging conditions. Two large pockets and one Napoleon chest pocket provide plenty of room for the essentials in summer or winter. Laminated and bonded pit zips give additional venting during strenuous ascents. Adjustable cuffs and dual tether hem drawcords offer further adjustment on the move. The Gryphon Jacket is a tough, stretchy and highly specified lightweight waterproof shell, an ideal choice whether used on the steepest technical ground or simply in hostile conditions on less severe terrain.
