Oregon based outdoor recreation brand Burley, has launched a limited-edition collection of upcycled bags in collaboration with North St. Bags. As a brand dedicated to making it easier for people to get out there by bike, Burley developed this line of bags with North St. Bags to help riders bring the gear they need and want along for the ride.

The new Burley North St. Bags collection showcases Burley’s commitment to sustainability by transforming unsold trailer components to create a custom series of bags constructed with nearly 80% upcycled components. Using fabric and trims from excess trailer covers, floor mats, and sunshades, these bags offer a unique and versatile way to carry gear. With this collaboration, over 350 trailer covers were diverted from the landfill.

“Sustainability is important to us. It is a main driver behind our intentionality in designing durable products and offering an extensive line of replacement parts to support them,” stated Kim Marek, Burley marketing manager. “When we came across a stockpile of replacement trailer covers that were planned to be obsoleted, we brainstormed ways to bring new life to these materials instead of having them head to the landfill. An upcycled project with North St. Bags immediately came to mind. North St. Bags’ attention to detail and quality construction mirrored our own values, and we could not have been more excited when they agreed to work with us on this project.”

Based in Portland, OR, North St. Bags is a small-scale production bag shop that specializes in bags and accessories for biking. Each of their products is made in-house using materials primarily made in the USA. In addition to sharing a home state, North St. Bags and Burley also share a commitment to sustainability.

“It’s really a dream come true to work with another Oregon company on a lifecycle project like this,” stated Sam Lisieski, sales and marketing manager at North St. Bags. “At North St., we talk a lot about balancing efficiency and quality on our production line. Making great gear is the cornerstone of what we do, but we’re also balancing physical and emotional needs. In the end it’s our values that bring us together as a team and get us in front of the sewing machines to do the work we do. So, a project like this, it just makes sense. There is so much room for this kind of thoughtfulness in manufacturing, and we can’t wait to see what we get up to next.”

The new Burley North St. Bags are perfect accessories for Burley’s family, cargo, and pet products. Biking, hiking, or strolling these bags ensure riders have the gear they need for any adventure. The bags are available in three styles, each available in multiple colorways: the Burley Pioneer 8 Hip Pack, Burley Pittock Pouch, and the Burley Pioneer 8 Hip & Handlebar Pack.
