REI Co-op opens the doors of its new Town and Country store on Friday, July 22. The outdoor retailer invites local members and the community to join a three-day celebration scheduled for July 22-24.

Located at 1214 Town and Country Crossing Drive, near Hwy 141 & Clayton Rd, the 23,000 square-foot store will offer a wide assortment of top-quality outdoor gear and apparel for hiking, camping, paddling, cycling, running, fitness and more. The store will also feature a specialty bike shop staffed with certified mechanics to tune or repair equipment.

During the three-day celebration, REI Town and Country will open at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday,  and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Giveaways will be available each day while supplies last. REI will host an outdoor social every afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. with music and outdoor brands including Black Diamond, Brooks Running, ENO, Gerber, Gregory Mountain Products, HOKA, Hydroflask, Kuat, Nikwax, Oboz, Osprey, prAna, Snow Peak, SoILL, and Subaru.  Regional nonprofit partners participating include Trailnet, Great Rivers Greenway, World Bird Sanctuary, and St. Louis Track Club.

“We’re excited to open our doors as the second REI store in Missouri and to serving the outdoor community in their active lifestyles and visitors who come to explore this amazing region,” said Ross Werner, REI store manager. “Whether trying a new activity or heading out on a familiar trail or waterway, we aspire to be at the center of people’s outdoor lives for products and expertise.”

Anyone is welcome to shop at REI and tap into the company’s resources in support of their active lifestyle, but members enjoy a range of benefits. There are more than 195,000 lifetime members in Missouri. Prior to the store’s opening, there were more than 65,000 members in St. Louis.  The store joins the co-op’s St. Louis location, which opened in 2001 and is located about nine miles away.

At every REI location across the country, the co-op is taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of its employees, customers and communities. Because Town and Country is defined as a “high COVID-19 Community Level area” employees and vendors are required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Customers (over the age of 2) are encouraged to wear masks, unless required by local mandate. Learn more about REI’s COVID-19 Health & Safety Standards policy and how it aligns with the Centers for Disease Control COVID-19 Community Level guidance.

REI Town and Country continues to hire full and part-time retail sales associates. Those who love the outdoors are encouraged to apply via the REI jobs page.

As a co-op, REI annually invests millions of dollars in local nonprofit organizations to steward trails, waterways and parks and connect people to the outdoors. Since 2002, the co-op has invested $522,000 in Missouri land agencies and nonprofit partners, of which $186,000 was directed to St. Louis-based nonprofits. Investments this year include Great Rivers Greenway FoundationHeartland Conservation Alliance, Ozark Trail AssociationTrailnet and Urban Trail Co. As REI approaches the opening of the new store, the co-op will continue its support of nonprofits in the local outdoor community.

Complementing REI’s community investment priority, last year the co-op introduced the REI Cooperative Action Fund, a community-supported public charity, to harness the collective power of the co-op’s members and employees to build a more equitable and inclusive outdoor community. The Fund invested $1 million in 19 organizations across the country. Missouri nonprofits included in the initial grant round were Adaptive Adventures (Columbia and St. Louis) and Black Girls RUN! Foundation (Kansas City and St. Louis).
