OUTDOOR RETAILER FEATURES EXPANDED EDUCATION AND EVENT LINEUP FOR FIRST INDUSTRY GATHERING OF 2023 IN SALT LAKE CITY

SALT LAKE CITY – (January 9, 2023) – Outdoor Retailer, the premier U.S. gathering and business event for the $862 billion outdoor industry, will feature an expanded schedule of in-person educational sessions, panel discussions, and trend presentations led by industry experts, plus a daily lineup of networking and industry events for the industry to connect and learn. Sessions and events will take place throughout Outdoor Retailer Snow Show from January 10-12, 2023, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.

“The extensive schedule of daily education, keynotes, workshops, and networking sessions at Outdoor Retailer provide insight to support retailers and brands in their businesses, while also celebrating the DNA of this industry,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer senior vice president and show director. “Our goal is to provide knowledge to help businesses navigate the current economic atmosphere, further marketing and distribution strategy, as well as provide trend forecasts and retail tactics, through an open dialogue and the sharing of best practices. Additionally, we have the opportunity to join conversations on topics important to our industry, including climate action, diversity and inclusion, advocacy, and finding common ground. These three full days of sessions are designed to encourage a lively exchange of ideas and help move the industry forward.”

Education sessions will take place in multiple areas on the show floor, including The Camp presented by Oracle NetSuite and Shopify Plus, Trend + Design Center, and The Ranger Station, as well as in the Overland Experience – all located inside the Salt Palace Convention Center. Snow Show opens with the Industry Breakfast hosted by Snowsports Industries America (SIA) on Tuesday, January 10 at 7:30 a.m. in the Hyatt featuring Dr. Abe Bakhsheshy, professor of organizational behavior from the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business, who will speak on emotional intelligence and leadership. SIA Industry + Intelligence sessions also take place in the show education areas each day. The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) will host multiple daily education sessions in the Hyatt that help the industry take action to strengthen their businesses, welcome more people outside, and protect our planet.

Education sessions will cover a wide variety of topics to support all aspects of the industry. Several industry experts return to provide retail data insights and trend forecasts for the design audience, including speakers from the NPD Group, WGSN, Coloro, Material ConneXion, and Promostyl. Among the new sessions are speakers and brand leaders covering marketing, distribution, and sales strategies from Oracle NetSuite, Shopify Plus, Blaze Partners, Bloomreach, and Finnegan.

The new Community Corner will introduce engaging campfire chats and actionable longest table discussions to inspire cooperation and strengthen community in order to effect change locally and globally. Featured speakers will include Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and other officials, Olympic and professional athletes, brand leaders, nonprofit organizations, and outdoor advocates, with the sessions open to all attendees. Conversations will begin at New@OR and continue at the neighboring Community Corner table.

Additionally, each day will feature happy hours and meetups for retailers and designers in the show areas. Marquee events will also be a celebration of the industry and provide new avenues to make industry connections. Among the event highlights:

  • January 10 from 9-11 a.m. in The Ranger Station at Venture Out: GATHER Women+ Networking Brunch
  • January 10 from 6-8 p.m. outside the Salt Palace: OR Homecoming Block Party
  • January 11 at 6 p.m.: Fifth annual Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards
  • January 11 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at The Front Climbing Club: Di’namik Finals Party and Competition
