Wisconsin Governor Creates Newest OREC
When Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed the biennial state budget, the nation’s newest office of outdoor recreation was created. Wisconsin joins 13 other states that have a similar position of leadership for outdoor recreation.
The new office will be housed under the state’s Department of Tourism and will be tasked with identifying ways the department can interact with other agencies to retain and attract outdoor recreation businesses while protecting natural resources.
Similar positions of outdoor recreation work to improve the economy of a state, improve the overall health of the population, improve conservation and stewardship and ensure the state has a skilled, trained workforce for careers in the outdoor industry.
OIA thanks members who reached out to their legislators and encouraged Governor Evers to create the Wisconsin Office of Outdoor Recreation.
