U.S. Government Report: Climate Change Exists, Humans a Leading Cause

November 6, 2017

Last Friday, the Trump administration released the U.S. Global Change Research Program Climate Science Special Report.

This assessment, required by Congress, concluded the following:

  • It is extremely likely that humans and greenhouse gas emissions are the leading cause of global warming since the mid-20th century.
  • It is important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid the continued increase of global temperatures.
  • Not acting to address carbon emissions will result in rising sea levels and more extreme weather events.

The outdoor industry is among the first to experience the impacts of climate change. This report exemplifies the potential future threats to outdoor recreation if we do not collectively act across industries and across party lines to address carbon emissions, support resiliency and help mitigate the impacts of climate change on our communities and economies.

The Trump administration report is released as the international community is meeting, starting today at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 23) in Bonn, Germany, to discuss how nations can come together to address this global issue.

Please join us during the Outdoor Retailer & Snow Show at an Industry & Intelligence Day panel (Day 0) and at the Industry Breakfast (Day 1) to learn more about how companies and industries are working together and what you can do to address the threat of climate change through advocacy and by developing sustainable business practices. More information on these will be coming soon!
