A new television ad, featuring Fishpond, Inc. owner and Outdoor Industry Association® (OIA) member John Land Le Coq, links the growth of small business in Colorado with the protection of the state’s natural areas and recreation amenities.

“I moved my company to Colorado because I knew it was the ideal place … to make my business thrive. … And because of the big impact that protecting the outdoors has on the success of our business,” said Land Le Coq.

The ad and a poll of Colorado small business owners were created by Small Business Majority, a national small business advocacy organization. Even though 87 percent of respondents have no business connection to conservation or outdoor recreation, Colorado small business owners understood the links between protecting natural areas, quality of life and a healthy economy:

  • 93 percent believe national parks, forests, monuments and wildlife areas are important to Colorado’s economy.
  • 83 percent agree we can protect land and water, create jobs and maintain a vibrant economy simultaneously.

In June, OIA is releasing a new report on the outdoor recreation economy, illustrating the economic benefits and jobs created by outdoor recreation and investment in America’s national outdoor recreation system of public lands, trails and parks. This is an important message that outdoor businesses need to spread among our nation’s leaders in order to garner support for issues that affect our industry.
