SUPZILLA to Take on King Kong Canoe in Open Air Demo Smackdown
Bring your cash and be ready to wager at next Wednesday’s Open Air Demo (OAD) at Lake Jordanelle State Park, where the monstrous stand-up paddleboard SUPZILLA will take on upstart rival King Kong Canoe in a winner-takes-all race.
More than bragging rights are at stake in this clash of titans, which is being organized as a fundraiser by the Paddlesports Advisory Council. OAD attendees will be able to place their bets on the outcome and raise money for either Outdoor Nation, represented by the 32-foot SUPZILLA, or Big City Mountaineers, represented by King Kong Canoe.
Just be sure to bring plenty of singles as bets will be taken in cash-only increments of $1. Donors who wager at least $5 and provide a business card will be entered in a drawing for a prize from the Outdoor Retailer Prize Tent in the New Exhibitor Pavilion.
To participate in the mayhem, just look for the bet takers. They’ll be hard to miss. The folks wearing Viking helmets will be collecting for Big City Mountaineers, while the folks in hula skirts will be collecting for Outdoor Nation.
The smackdown will go down a little after noon on Aug. 1 on the shores of Jordanelle State Park, which hosts OAD on the eve of Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Just listen for the sound of a conch shell, which Outdoor Retailer Show Director Kenji Haroutunian will blow to introduce the competitors. Stick around afterward for a chance to take one of the beastly crafts for spin on the lake.
