Congressional Trade Alert: Miscellaneous Tariff Bills

The House of Representatives approved a package of Miscellaneous Tariff Bills (MTBs) today, legislation that will lower costs for outdoor companies. The Senate passed the bill in July, and it now goes to the White House for the president’s signature.

Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) strongly supported the MTB package. Ten footwear MTBs submitted by OIA, covering a wide range of footwear, were included and will lower the tariffs on those products for three years. You can learn more about the footwear products included here.

“OIA applauds Congress for its overwhelming and bipartisan support of the MTB package and tariff relief for outdoor footwear products. Outdoor companies have successfully utilized past MTB rounds to save more than $40 million, which led to lower costs, product innovation and more American jobs.”

MTBs reduce or suspend import duties on certain products, including inputs and some finished products, for three years. They are fully vetted to ensure that there is no domestic production and do not cost more than $500,000 each.

A new MTB round will begin in 2019. Contact me to learn more about how you can get involved.
