Outdoor Nation and The Futurist Project Team to Engage Young Outdoor Industry Leaders
Outdoor Nation, an initiative of The Outdoor Foundation®, has announced that it will partner with The Futurist Project to bring together young, influential outdoor industry leaders to discuss issues related to their generation, the future of the industry and their relationship with the outdoors. The goal is to generate innovative ideas to follow up with grant funding.
Supported by hundreds of outdoor industry companies, The Outdoor Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established by Outdoor Industry Association® (OIA) to inspire future generations of outdoor enthusiasts. In 2010, The Outdoor Foundation joined with founding partners The North Face and REI Foundation to launch Outdoor Nation in order to empower young outdoor leaders with tools, training and resources to champion the outdoors on campuses and in communities.
The Futurist Project kicked off at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2012 with seventeen “Futurists,” who attended an inaugural gathering to discuss collective experiences, share stories, and identify ways to define the future of the outdoor community.
“We were excited to bring together our peers in a way that was authentic to us,” said Deanna Lloyd, co-founder of The Futurist Project and director at The Forest Group.
The next Futurist meeting will take place Aug. 1, on the eve of Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City. One hundred Futurists (age 35 and younger) will be invited to attend. Nominations can be emailed to email@example.com. Outdoor Nation will finance proposals that may result from The Futurist Project.
“Partnering with Outdoor Nation creates the ability to not only talk about good ideas, but to make them happen, which is truly a game-changer,” said Stasia Raines, co-founder of The Futurist Project and director of marketing and communications for The Outdoor Foundation.
Last year, Outdoor Nation gave away $150,000 in activation grants. The organization plans to double the amount this year.
