It’s Official! National Governors Association Launches Outdoor Recreation Learning Network
Last week, OIA’s state and local team gathered in Salt Lake City to launch the National Governors Association’s newest platform, the Outdoor Recreation Learning Network (ORLN).
The Outdoor Recreation Learning Network will help governors explore how outdoor recreation can improve their state’s economy and public health and increase conservation and stewardship efforts. The Outdoor Recreation Learning Network will allow states to share best practices to maximize the benefits of outdoor recreation for their communities.
We were joined (pictured above, left to right) by Governors Herbert (Utah), Bullock (Mont.), Scott (Vt.), Brown (Ore.), Mills (Maine) and Sisolak (Nev.), all of whom recognize the important role the outdoor industry plays in their states’ economies and each have created state offices of outdoor recreation.
Fifteen states have recognized the importance of creating ORECs, including four new offices created this year, and we’re working hard in a number of other states that have pending legislation or are considering executive orders.
A huge thank you to REI Co-op and Outdoor Recreation Roundtable for joining OIA as founding sponsors of the ORLN. For more information about offices of outdoor recreation, click here.
