The Department of Interior recently announced that the National Parks Service is considering increasing entrance fees to 17 of America’s favorite national parks.
We invite you to comment to the National Park Service and ask that the administration strongly consider the comments they receive.
Congress and the administration should prioritize funding for outdoor recreation infrastructure like our national parks, and other public lands. OIA will continue to fight for funding in support of the $887 billion recreation economy. The unmet infrastructure needs and $12 billion maintenance backlog in our national parks must be considered, but proposals to double or triple NPS entrance fees are unreasonable and will price many Americans out of their parks and limit their access to America’s great outdoors. While some fee increase may be appropriate to support funding for our parks, Interior’s proposal would generate about $70 million as they propose to cut the NPS budget by nearly $380 million.
