NEWLY REDESIGNED!  The March sales growth trend in the combined outdoor specialty channels (Independent Outdoor Specialty and Outdoor Chain Specialty) roughly matched the trend in the overall  The weather limited the growth opportunities for the month of March this year as an early spring in most parts of the country pulled sales of warm weather gear and softgoods into February. Outdoor product retail sales for the fiscal month of March rose 1.1 percent to $786.7 million in the channels tracked by SportScanInfo for OIA VantagePoint. While the overall trend in outdoor products was an improvement from the February trend, the upside was unbalanced across trade channels. The Internet, sporting goods, family footwear and discount/ mass channels posted an improvement versus the February and year-to-date trends. The month was also up against tough comparisons from March 2011 when retail sales grew in the mid-single-digits.market. The combined channel was up 1.0 percent to $235.6 million in March. Both channels under-performed the February trend.
