Backbone Media and Polartec Named Finalists in PR Daily’s Digital PR and Social Media Awards

Backbone Media is proud to announce that the Polartec Made Possible College Challenge, now in its third year, has been named a finalist for the PR Daily Digital PR and Social Media Awards. The Made Possible contest and Facebook application were chosen in the ‘Best Use of Facebook’ category alongside American Airlines, Scholastic, and Federal Credit Union, among others.

Polartec®, the leading manufacturer of performance fabrics, launched the Made Possible College Challenge in 2010 as a way to recognize collegiate outdoor programs nationwide and award one winning school a $10,000 grant.

“We believe collegiate outdoor programs play an important role in fostering the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts,” states Polartec Global Director of Marketing, Allon Cohne. “These outdoor programs encourage students to get out and appreciate nature, teach valuable leadership skills and pass along the ethics of environmental stewardship.”

The first stage of the Made Possible contest invites official collegiate outdoor programs nationwide to submit a video or written proposal telling Polartec how they would use a $10,000 grant. Once submissions have been accepted, Polartec chooses finalists based on creativity, effort and consistency with the Made Possible message. The public then votes for the winning school via an application on Polartec’s Facebook page developed with Friend2Friend. The school with the most votes is awarded the $10,000.

Last year’s Made Possible contest yielded over 27,000 votes, over 1.7 million impressions, and audience growth of over 18% for Polartec. Finalists are encouraged to rally their own votes, an element of the contest that has resulted in reports of increased awareness on campuses for outdoor programs and increased participation.

Made Possible 2012 is current underway and submissions are being accepted until November 9th.  Information on this year’s contest can be found at madepossible.polartec.com.
